The False Prophet

"The False Prophet" is a play set in a timeless occupied no-man's land, in which a folk-movement prophet and an emissary of an imperial church spend a night in a run-down cottage, each convinced that they alone carry the true prophecy. Framed by a choir singing Czech and Moravian folk songs that carry the real omen of prophecy, the play draws on Czech and Irish folklore and argues that prophecy belongs to the people and that history repeats and the oppressed become the oppressor.
